1) let cover for column be 40mm (as u have not mentioned)
formula to determine cutting length of stirrup is given below
cutting length= (2A+2B)+(24D)
A=LONGER LENGTH OF COLUMN-2XCOVER=400-40X2=320MM
B=SHORTER LENGTH OF COLUMN-2XCOVER=250-40X2=170MM
D= DIAMETER OF STIRRUP BAR IN MM
therefore
cutting length=2X320+2X170 + 24X8 =1172MM=1.172 meter
2) given cover 25mm (as u have mentioned)
formula to determine cutting length of stirrup is given below
cutting length= (2A+2B)+(24D)
A=LONGER LENGTH OF BEAM-2XCOVER=400-25X2=350MM
B=SHORTER LENGTH OF BEAM-2XCOVER=200-25X2=150MM
D= DIAMETER OF STIRRUP BAR IN MM
therefore
cutting length=2X350+2X150 + 24X8 =1192MM=1.192 meter
NOTE SLAB COVER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CAL.OF STIRRUPS
3) ASSUME cover 30mm (as u have NOT mentioned)
formula to determine cutting length of stirrup is given below
cutting length= (2A+2B)+(24D)
A=LONGER LENGTH OF COLUMN/2 -COVER=400/2-30=170MM
B=SHORTER LENGTH OF COLUMN-2XCOVER=250-30X2=190MM
D= DIAMETER OF STIRRUP BAR IN MM
therefore
cutting length=2X170+2X190 + 24X8 =912MM=0.912 meter EACH
NOTE I HAVE CONSIDERED 8MM DIA STIRRUP BAR EVERY WHERE
UPTO 12MM DIA BARS CAN BE USED AS STIRRUPS GENERALLY

a) let the cover 40 mm.in column,then
cutting length of ring is= 2*(170+320)+2*10*d-10*d
where hooks are= 10d+10d
deduction bend=2*5*d=10d
so length is =1060 mm

Answer / manish
a) Column size= 250*400,
so, L=250, B=400, cover = 40mm, bar dia 8mm
Cutting length of stirrups
= 2(L+B)-(8*cover)+(2*10d)-(1.5d*nos of bends)
(2*10d) is for 2hooks,
1.5d is deduction for elongation at each bend
Calculation =2*(250+400)-(8*40)+(2*10*8)-(1.5*8*5)
Cut length= 1080 mm.

If Cutting length of ring is 250-40*2=170
400-40*2=320
Total =170+320*2=980mm+hook calculate 10*8+80
We elongation on the 8mm rod
minus =980+96+96=1172-5*8
1172-40=1132 mm

IN CASE OF COLUMN-
DIM.-200X400mm
CONCRETE COVER-
FOR COLUMN THICKNESS <250mm=25mm
FOR COLUMN THICKNESS >250mm=40mm
LENGHT OF TIE- 2A+2B=2X200+2X400=1200mm
NOW DEDUCT CONCRETE COVER-LENGTH OF TIE-COCNRETE COVER=1200-
2X40=1120MM
ALSO, DEDCUT BENDS- 2D FOR 45degrees
D FOR 90degrees
THEREFORE- CUT LENGTH OF TIE-1120-DX5=1120-2X8=1104mm(NO.
OF BENDS -5 )
Length of Hooks=10d=10x8=80MM
NO. OF hooks=2
Therefore-Length of Hook=2x20=160MM
CUTTING LENGHT OF BAR=1104+160=1264MM=1.264m

Given Data : Column size = 250x400 Clear Cover = 40 mm Dia of Stirrup = 8 mm
Ans: To calculate cutting length first we determine the lengths A and B
So A = 250-2x40+2x(half dia of stirrup) = 250-80+2x4 = 178
B = 400-2x40+2x(half dia of stirrup) = 400-80+2x4 = 328
Deductions : For bents up we must deduct the values that for
45 degree bent = 1d
90 degree bent = 2d
135 degree bent = 3d where d = dia of stirrup
here in our case for the hooks there are 2 bends of 135 degree each
for the stirrup there are 3 bends of each 90 degree
so deductions = 2x3xd + 3x2xd = 2x3x8 + 3x2x8
Addings up ---> we have to add up hook lengths here in our case each hook length = 12 d so for 2 hooks the hook length = 12d+12d = 24d
So now the actual cutting length = 2(A+B)-2x3x8-3x2x8+24x8
= 2(178+328)-2x3x8-3x2x8+24x8
= 1012-48-48+192 = 1108 = 1.108 m.
Note : It is only correct answer I assure to you all which will be the elsewhere worthwhile in whole india you can check up

as per IS 2502
cutting length for rectangular ties will be 2A+2B+24d
where A & B inside dimension of stirrup, d dia (8mm)of bar
for column size 250x400 , nominal cover 40mm,
A = 250-80-16 = 154
B = 400-80-16 = 304
cutting length = (2x154)+ (2x304)+ (24x8)
= 1108
