Configuration Management is nothing but tracking and controlling of configuration and customization in Implementation as well as support project.

Comprehensive SAP configuration management all across the SAP landscape is meant to ensure overall integrity of the objects involved in SAP development, including ABAP as well as non-ABAP objects:

The use of well-defined standardized naming conventions clearly reveals to which organizations, areas and projects the objects belong.For example , all the customized programs should be named starting with Z_ .

All changes to objects, including individual customizing settings, are documented. At any time, it is obvious who is – and at which times – the owner of settings, who has made changes and for which reason. This allows the changes to be tracked afterwards, which is an equivalent to versioning.
The documentation also includes the information as to who and what and who depends from a defined customizing setting.

CONFIGURATION IS NOTHING BUT OTHER FORM OF IMPLEMENTION that
you do in your project . YOU have 2 forms over here

One is base line confiorguration( unit configurtion )
Other is final configuration

Eg of base line configurtion is single sales order creation
; delivery ; billing ; pricing etc
Eg of final confdiguration is the conbination of all the
settign you do to run a e2e cycle in any business process

Since you obviously have no real time example from your
experience, your best answer is to say that you don't know
a single thing about Configuration Management. At least
they will know you are honest. Imagine their horror when
you give them a good answer and then hire you only to find
out that you BS'd them and that you have little or no value
to them. Get real.
