Usages can be used to determine the Item Category.

To maintain the usage:
Go to VD51 i.e. CMIR (Customer Material Info record)
here enter customer no., sales org and dist. chan.
Press enter
enter the material and from the menu bar "Go to" and then
"Info record details" .

Now on this screen u see "Item Usage" u can maintain there
as "FREE" if u wanna give that material free to that customer.

In VOV4 u can assign them as
Sales Org, Item cat. Group (Norm), Usage (Free), High. leve Item category (TAN), Dft. Item category (TANN)

when u select TANN it will give that item as free, because in TANN u have configured as "no pricing"

Item category determination : sales document type+ item

standard item category : OR +NORM --TAN

For Material Determination

Usage we use is PSHP for Displaying Main Items
Usage we use is PSEL for Displaying Sub Items

This usage we use for OUTCOME

Outcome: outcome controls whether substituted material
should be replaced or displayed as sub items.

For Free Goods

Usage is free

so configure this usages in vov4.

"Usage" actually means what the item (in sales order) is
being used for. For e.g. repair, text, free goods, purchase
order etc. "Usage" controls the way the system reacts, when
you process a sales document item.

Usage is a hard coded program which tells the system what the material is being used for in the sales order and how to react.

item catagory determination enables, the system praposes
the corosponding item catagory for sales document type
through item catagory group.

sales document type
item catagory group
item usage
highier level item catagory
default item catagory
manuval item catagory

The usage is used to determine the ITEM CATEGORY, it is
maintained in CUSTOMER MATERIAL INFO RECORDS ,in the bottom
most part of the screen u can see it.

some cases the system itself identifies the usage. for
example when u jus type some text in the description in the
order it automatically identifies it to be a text item with
TATX as item category.. here usage text is automatically
determined..

In a sales order, I want to give a material as free item, I have entered the item no. in higher level item category, item category is coming as TANN, but system still calculates the value as normal material. How to configure that system will not calculate for that free material?
