Why we use DC for charging of Batteries??Why not AC
Supply???

Answer / ramachandran n
If we are using AC supply,in positive half cycle battery
will charge and in negative half cycle battery will
dischage so finally there is no charge.
But in Direct cuurent, there is no phase angle between V
and I & so no power factor also.
all are in phase ,so in DC only we can charge the batteries

battery is during charging period positive ions eliminated
in the chathode ,negative ions eliminated in the anode by
appling of the positive negative supply for chathode &
negative rod.if we give ac supply positive & nagative
polarity is changed in every 50hz so that is not
sutitable .that battery was damaged

Second answer is correct.
But if u apply pure DC to charge, then battery will become
heat, and charging process will be slow.
So the charging voltage should be non pure DC.

Electrical energy storage is not possible. But chemical
energy storage is possible. so,we are covert electrical in
to chemical energy.
Chemical energy having positive ions and negative ions
only. same time DC sopply also having positive and negative.
(DC supply Only use in charging process/Chemical process)
AC supply having cycles (sine wave)positive half
cycle, negative half cycle. Its not Sutible for Chemical
process.
So we are use only DC Supply

Answer / ratan nura
In AC supply, both voltage and current have a sinusoidal nature i.e. voltage changes from 0-V and V-0 for positive cycle and 0 to -V and -V to 0 for negative cycle. the same happens for the current.
Charging of a battery requires a constant current
I > the output current of the battery. If the value of current keeps changing (i.e from 0-I,I-0, 0 to -I, -I to 0), the free electrons in the electrodes get released in the liquid alkali solution and energy is stored inside the battery as chemical energy for positive cycle. But for the negative cycle, the free electrons inside the battery accumulate in the electrodes thus charging the AC supply, i.e. in negative cycle the terminal voltage of the battery is equal to battery supply voltage + AC supply voltage. This can be dangerous for the battery as it may get neutralized and further charging becomes impossible.
Hence DC source is used for charging the battery and not AC.
Note : Charging of a battery depends on the source voltage and not current. source with excessive current can burn the battery or it may explode. So for this purpose current is kept as low as possible...
