Why we use DC for charging of Batteries??Why not AC

If we are using AC supply,in positive half cycle battery
will charge and in negative half cycle battery will
dischage so finally there is no charge.
But in Direct cuurent, there is no phase angle between V
and I & so no power factor also.
all are in phase ,so in DC only we can charge the batteries
