Recruitment and Selection are two intereraletd function but
yet different
Recruitment is positive process while Selection is a
negative process.
Recruitment is calling large pool of candidates while
Selection is choosing the suitable candidate.
Recruitment comes first and is followed by Selection.
A company need 10 new people in finance department.
The company may call people for interviews out of 25
candidates they select 15 best candidates
who qualify for the position. Now that is selection.
Out of 15 as they only want 10 candidates, so they will
recruit 10 best canadidate who will
suit their requirement perfect

Selection is a part of Recruitment process.
Recruitment is a process of identifying manpower needs and
filling the gap through:
1. Identifying the Manpower needs per the Project
requirement.
2. Sourcing- various media likeJob Portal, head hunting,
Paper Ad, references etc.
3. Conferencing: Identifying the prospective Candidates.
4. Scheduling: Interviews, video conferencing etc.
5. Negotation & verfication: based upon CTC, Allowances,
and Compensation etc. & a candidates background and
reference check is done
6. Selection: Last phase in which after positive
verification and negotiation, an offer is rolled and
candidate is put Onboard for delivery.
So difference lies in the stages of recruitment of which
selection is the end result.

When a firm identifies an opening, it lets out an
advertisement to attract possible applicants. From this
pool of applicants individuals with desired
qualifications, experience etc are called for. This is the
recruitment process. The selection process is the second
step. Here the objective would be to identify the right
person for the job by looking into his qualities that will
suit him for the job.
