SID is generated when you load master data.
Dim ID is generated when you load Transaction data.

In SAP BI Master data is loaded once and used across the system when needed.So to Share master data a SID table is created where it holds the id of each entry.This ID is generated by system when data is loaded to object called SID.
In this way you can access master data in multiple cubes.

Dim ID is generated when you load Transaction data to cube.
Dimension table holds SID & DIM ID-->master data and transaction data is connected.

A simple example:
MASTER DATA
cust_id name location
c101 Cris Hyderabad
c102 Kria Banglore
c103 Steve Delhi

When above data is loaded to info object an SID table is filled with SID's.

SID Table
MD SID
c101 11
c102 96
c103 24

TRANSACTION DATA

Cust_id Product_id Quantity Price Amount
c101 P23 5 5 25
c102 P27 8 100 800
c103 P35 4 25 100

When the above data is loaded to cube Dim id's are generated.

fact table will look like

CUST_Dimid PRODUCT_Dimid Quantity Price Amount
78 61 5 5 25
75 62 8 100 800
71 63 4 25 100

Dimension Table of customer will be:

CUST_Dimid Sid
78 11
75 96
71 94

In similar way Product Dimension Table is filled.Try to work out for Product by considering few products.

SID is surrogate ID generated by the system. The SID tables are created when we create a master data IO. In SAP BI Extended star schema, the distinction is made between two self contained areas: Info cube & Master data tables and connecting SID tables.

The master data doesn't reside in the Extended Star schema but resides in separate tables which are shared across all the star schemas in SAP BI.

An Unique Numeric ID , the SID is generated which connects the dimension tables of the infocube to that of the master data tables.
The dimension tables contain the DIM IDs and SIDs of a particular Characteristic Info Object. Using this SID Table the Master data ( attributes and texts of Info Object) is accessed.

1.When u load the data then SID`s are generated,

2.when u creat a info object it only creats a table,

3.DIM ID i.e a Primary Keys Eg : Emp id / cust id / product id
are called dim id's
