If we use wooden core instead of iron core then we have to required large magnetizing current.because most of the current is dissipated for setup of flux,So less current will be available for the load

wooden core is bad conductor of electricity,current can't
flow through it,so we use iron core because when current
flow core magnetic flux set up.
