Due to the air gap between the stator and rotor it draws
more starting current compared to the transformer.

starting current requred to start induction motor is high
compared to transformer bcoz of the presence of air gap in
induction motor.

Answer / saravana
induction machine is a rotating device, it needs high
current than transformer, at time of starting and its rotor
is closed circuit it consist of less impedance obviously it
take more current from the stator that's why it takes more
current

Indction motor ,as the starting current is initial
magnetising current plus the current required to overcome
the inertia of the rotor

AS SOME AIR GAP IS PRESENT IN INDUCTION MOTOR THE POWER
NEEDED IS HHIGH SO IT RAISES THE STARTING CURRENT IN THE
INDUCTION MOTOR

Rating im is given in kw while tr. in kva for big rating of
m/c tr. have higher starting current. because at starting
inrush current is also there which is 5-10times of full
load current.

Answer / subbarao
induction motor takes 5 to 7 times of current at starting because its rotor short circuited and offers low impedance, obviously transformer offers high impedance compared to induction motor.
