How to calculat size of copper & aluminium ?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
For calculating cable size, for a specific load current,
following facts to be considered:
1.Maximum load current.
2.under ground or overhead laying
3.max. temperature withstanding capability of cable insulation.
4.max. voltage stress withstanding capability of cable
insulation.
5. distance of load from the power supply
6. AC/DC supply and frequency .

In that question, the follwing factors are not mentioned
for what current load u are selecting the cable size---??
for what the calbe length using for system---????
for what type of load has to be conneted--/?????
If above factor are availabe then we can claculate the
same. there is no exact formula to calculate the size of
cable without all above factors

here i think the question is asked considering the same
current is flowed by the wires.
we should consider the fact that in
aluminium the tensile strength is more. conductivity is
less but cost is also less.
so the span of aluminium is high. also the conductor size
is more. but even in that case the overall cost is less for
aluminium.

A 400 V, 50 Hz, Δ connected synchronous generator has a field reactance of 0.1 Ω and armature resistance of 0.015 Ω. At full load, the machine supplies 1200 A at 0.8 pf lagging. Under full-load conditions, the friction and windage losses are 40 KW and the core losses are 30 KW. What is the machine’s overall efficiency? Ignore any field circuit losses.
