Answer / durga prasad boddu
Orifice means sudden reduction in area. Just like nozzle,
when high pressured steam flows through the sudden
reductioned area then the presure will be reduced and steam
has to flow throgh the orifice the heat transfer rate will
be increased and temperature will be reduced.

sum of pressure energy, Kinetic energy and datum enegy is a constant....
as area decreases velocity increases...(just imagine water flowing through a pipe)
ie, KE increases
thus there has to be a reduction in the pressure energy to compensate the increase in KE...

Orifice is a small hole like a nozzle. When a high pressure
fluid passes through the orifice, Pressure gets reduced
suddenly and the velocity of the fluid gets increased. Also
the heat transfer rate increases. We know that Heat transfer
rat is directly proportional to the difference in
temperature, Area and the heat transfer coefficient. Heat
transfer Coefficient remains constant for a fluid at a
particular temperature.
Q= KA(T1-T2)
If the heat transfer rate increases, it seems the
difference in temperature gets increased. There is no way in
reduction of inlet temperature of the orifice. As a result,
The outlet temperature of the orifice gets reduced.
Hence the pressure and temperature gets reduced when
it passes through orifice.

a1v1=a2v2.there is a decrease in the area of cross-section
which leads to increase in the velocity.Where there is a
high velocity there will be low pressure!

Take 2" pipe, and place an 2mm orifice in the pipe line.
Suppose that the pressure before orifice is 5bar. Due to
this obstruction to the flow(in the form of orifice), the
energy of the fluid will decrease. Wherever pressure is
high, there automatically quantity of the fluid also high.
So that before orifice, assume that hot fluid flowing
throughout the circumference of the pipe line. After
orifice there is less chance to flow of the fluid due to
area restriction. Here after orifice, the fluid is flowing
only 30% of the circumference of the pipe. Here large area
is available for heat tranfer. So that there is a chance
of decreasing in temperature.

Answer / s.karthick, tamilnadu
in an orifice pressure and temperature are decreases because
total energy of the fluid is split in to the types PRESSURE
ENERGY + KINETIC ENERGY + DATUM ENERGY = CONSTANT.in orifice
velocity of fluid increases then automatically pressure will
be reduced, ACCORDING TO THE JOULE'S THRAOTLING EFFECT THE
TEMPERATURE WILL DECREASES
