What does negative slip of an induction motor signify?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
For an induction motor we have
s= (Ns-Nr)/Ns
so slip can be negative in the region where the value of
rotor speed exceeds that of the synchronous speed. usually
while working as an induction motor the speed of the rotor
cant touch the synchronous speed. because as it does so
there will be no cutting of the flux lines by the rotor
conductors. so there will be no emf induced so no current ,
so no force and no torque.
but when the induction motor is run by an external
primemover over the synchronous speed now rotor speed
increases that of the Ns. so rotor emf E2> stator applied emf.
the induction motor now functions as an induction generator.

If the rotor is running more with respect to stator or
meachine synchronous speed called as negative slip.
OR
The injected or developed frequency in rotor is greater
than supply frequency.
significent:Induction motor acts as induction generetor.

slip=(Ns-N)/Ns
wh Ns - sync speed
N - actual speed of rotor.
generally whn IM is acting as motor, rotor speed is always
less than Ns,but if it is acting as gen(a prime mover moves
rotor),N bcms gr8er than Ns.
hence 4m formula we can c that s bcms -ve.
it implies rotor is running faster than stator field.

if rotor speed is greater than stator speed then we get -ve
slip
slip speed =n(synhronous)-n(rotor)

The slip can be negative when the induction motor works as a generator i.e
The Ns speed is less than the Nr speed.the negative slip makes the electromagnetic torque negative during regeneration on generating mode.

its mean induction machine is working as a generator....because in case of induction motor slip is always positive.

In case of induction motor rotor speed is always less then synchronous speed so its convert electrical to mechanical so its called motor and another case rotor.speed is more than synchronous speed then slip is negative (help of primemover) and thus its produced electricity so its called generator

If Nr speed is greater than Ns that is called - ve slip, if Nr speen is equal to Ns that is called zero slip and Nr is less than Ns that is called +ve slip.....

Dear all, I just want to ask an expert on this forum for some insights. For the magnetic balance test, when applied voltage on a Delta-Star transformer e.g. Dyn11, the following relationships apply for HV side: 1. H1-H2 = H2-H3 H3-H1 2. H2-H3 = H3-H1 H1-H2 3. H3-H1 = H1-H2 H2-H3 For the LV side also: 4. X1-X0 = X2-X0 X3-X0 5. X2-X0 = X3-X0 X1-X0 6. X3-X0 = X1-X0 X2-X0 Is there a similar pattern for Y-d, Y-Y, D-d? And how about Y-z, D-z, Z-y transformers? I've tested a YNzn5 transformer and for LV side I don't see the pattern. In this particular case I got for LV side the following (see values below): H1-H0 H2-H0 H3-H0 X0-X1 X0-X2 X0-X3 128.0 119.9 7.2 29.2 13.3 15.8 70.7 128.4 59.2 23.4 22.0 3.6 7.2 120.1 128.1 13.4 29.3 15.8 What is the relationship here for LV? For row 1 I see the relationship, for row 3 I also see but it's shifted, but for row 2 I don't see such relationship. Any suggestions, answers, someone?

Distinguish between neutral earthing and equipment earthing?
at work we have a 3 phase motor but on testing one phase isnt getting a reading. it runs 24 hours a day all week. stops and starts well no noise or heating. the phase isnt down to earth.is it just a bad meter reading or not? phases one and three came up with a resistance reading of 0.4 but phase 2 couldnt get anything shows up as open circuit.
any body can give me idea or sketch of fuel(Diesel) level controller for genset.
