Datawarehouse is a collection of data from different source
systems which can be utilized for Analysis and Reporting
sake to take proper decisions in the right time for the
company's Proficiency.

I can give some examples:

One Success Story is Air Deccan by analysing and getting
the data from rival companies Air Deccan in India released
a new fare concept which attracted the Middle class people
to fly from one destination to another destination. And
obviously they have got the Second Slot in the Share of
Indian Airlines. In such a way Datawarehouse is Directly or
indirectly improving the proficiency of the Company.

Answer is absolutely correct but function answer.

Technical answer is:

A datawarehouse is one where consolidated data of the whole
organization (or a specific business area ) is stored in
such a way that efficient queries can be built on that for
analysis purpose.

A data warehouse should have following:
1. Facalitate ETL
2. Objects to store data for long period
3. Facilitate reporting on stored data
