Elevation is given for compensation of natural sag of heavy rotors.Steam turbine manufacturer submits a document known as deflection curve for rotors. On that curve '0'point is specified (any bearing) and other bearings ar kept on different elevation with reference to this "0" refereed bearing.

While rotation high speed shaft of gear box will lift by low speed side shaft due to the load on high speed shaft
Then it will come in to centre line after rotation.

It will damage the shaft coupling and more even dangerous in running condition & JOP lifts the shaft not by weight u fool.
