Presentation Layer: Its just a GUI where user works. Where he can enter the command and view the results. What user views is called as Presentation layer
Application layer: The actual execution of the command is done in this layer. All commands given at presentation layer are passed to application layer where work processes will look after the execution.
Database layer: This is most bottom layer of SAP R/3. Extraction of data from the database and insertion of data into database is done at this layer.
