Can u explain : what is supply for train (whether a,c or d.c
).I know that supply is 25000v a.c .But there is rumour that
supply is D.C.
And also explain how lights and fans inside the trains are
working ,and what type of motors are used in trains whether
D.C motors or induction motors .If d.c motor, how it gets
supply. If traction motors are used then what are traction
motors and its functions and how it differs from other
motors and also explain about locomotive .
please reply..............

all indian trains run at 25 kv ac. only in mumbai church
gate area d.c system is still in use.
Lights and fans run at 110V DC system through batteries
under the coaches.
Locomotive uses DC series motor, 25KV is stepped down by
transformer and converted to DC by rectifiers inside the
locomotive itself.
Induction motor not used
DC series motors are used as they have high starting torque.

dc shunt motor are never used for traction.
it has drooping characteristics of Torque Vs Speed hence dc
shunt motor is not employed.
The characteristics of dc series motor suits best for that
application. its better if you observe the characteristics
of dc series motor.

Its good question.
But for a motor the mechanical characteristics (T Vs N) are
concentrated.and even though the if the load increases the
speed would decreases for shunt motor. But in the case of dc
series motor both armature current and field current are
same and at much higher loads also the torque can be maintained.
For dc series motor we operate in such a circumstances such
that at constant torque and variable speed.

Sir Sandip patel
u have D.C seies motor is used in locomotive . Can u explain what is locomotive.More over D.C series motor is used as boosters,it cannot maintain constant speed na.So D.C shunt motor is used na please reply.
