Suppose am having the PF value .8, so how can we say that
is it lagging or leading?

Answer / raveendran.p
Pf is usually spelt as 0.8 lagging or 0.8 leading. There is
error in telling otherwise. However relatively 0.8 can be
assumed as lagging since lagging pf is commonly encountered
in power systems. Leading pf mostly will be stated
explicitely.

if you are considering any equipment such as motor or
lighting load such as fluorescent lights
most of the loads are inductive in nature
you are talking about 0.8 lagging p.f.
people are using capacitor banks to improve p.f. upto unity
in this case it is definately 0.8 lagging p.f.

normally load r lagging nature so it is lagging power
factor only

Answer / santoshvarma
Just is the KVAR value from multifunction meter if it is
positive then 0.8 is lagging pf and if the KVAR value is
negative then 0.8 is Leading power factor.

by taking the avarage values of kwh and kvah . by
considering this values we can say that if kvah is greater
it is -0.8 pf or if kwh is greater it is +0.8 pf or if both
values are same it is unity pf or it is=1 pf .

In Dyn11 power transformer if any one of the 3 phases connected to earth in star connected side then please explain effect of the current flow in delta connected side of transformer.(In this case if one phase is shorted to ground in star connected side then we observe the current flow in two phases only not three phases in delta connected primary side. Please explain why it is so?)
