Transaction variant is the option by which we can make fields Display or suppress mode.
We can define this in Transaction code SHD0 and we assign these to document types.
For example if we want restrict the end user to do the delivery from VLO4 t- code
we create delivery block for VL04 and assign to OR doc type. so that user can not create a delivery with VLO4 but user can remove the the block and do the delivery from VL04. so stop that we can use Transaction variant option.

In SHD0 we create on transaction variant with delivery block option and we assign this variant to OR. so that delivery block field will be display mode for End user.
