splice length is recquired to transfer force from one bar
to another.
it is calculated in two ways
1. lap length in compression
2. lap length in tension
it is equal to development lenth that you can calculated
from book

splice length is calculated similar to lap length. It is based upon diameter of rod and grade of concrete.

when the length of bar available in market is smaller or
when the pieces of bars are to be utilized the bars are
required to be lapped
a) flexural tension: Ld or 30dia,whichever greater
b) direct tension: 2Ld or 30dia, greater
c) compression:Ld or 24dia, greater
straight length of lap should not be less than 15dia or 200
mm, minimum
