There are various causes of failure of foundations;viz
1-Uneven loading of the structre.
2-poor selection of the foundation due to wrong or lack of
soil analysis
3-poor drainage system within the site.
Remedies
1-for uneven loading,during design state,live and dead
loads should be carefully distributed by introduction of
columns,beams.
2-proper soil analysis should be carried out, this will give
the inside of the type of foundation to be adapted for a
particular structure.
3-for poor drainage, this can be avoided by proper leveling
of the site prior to construction, use of land drains or use
of water repellant cement for the foundation concrete

There are several casuses of faiure of founation. 1) Water
entering in the foundation. It creates settlement. 2) Low
bearing capacity of the soil 3) Improper Design 4).
Construction of another building nearby.
Remidies. Leakage should be controlled. The cracks should
be cemented. Vertical DPC should be done.

Design a cantilever slab to carry a live load of 2000 N/m2. The overhang of the slab is 1.20m. b) A slab over a room is 4.75m x 4.75m. The edges of the slab are simply supported and the corners are not held down. The live load an the slab is 300 Kg/m2. The slab has a bearing of 15cm. On the supporting walls. Design the slab as per Rankine - Grashoff theory. Assume weight of R.C.C. = 2400 Kg/m2.
