Differentiate between Roles & Profiles are as below :

A Role can be represented with
ST_Code (PFCG) and a Role can be defined with Selected
Profiles to particular defined User in Role.

When a User is created by
default there will be 2 profiles added to user (i.e:
SAP_All and SAP_New).There are all together around 500
default profiles .

in 4.6c on wards we are colling rols,Role contains the
t-code,urls,reports.in this at the creatin of roles profiles
also will generated by default

before 4.6b profiles will be there,in that we are adding
authorisations
