what is the difference between LT and HT power supply?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / suresh
LT (LOW TENSION) SUPPLY HAVING VOLTAGES OF 415V, 11KV.
HT (HIGH TENSION) SUPPLY HAVING VOLTAGES ABOVE 11KV LIKE 33KV, 132KV,400KV.
SIMPLY FOR BIG INDUSTRIES THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE FROM GRID IS HT LINE AND THEY WILL STEP DOWN THE VOLTAGE TO LT IN LOCAL SUBSTATION.

LT power supply up to 415 volt, where as HT power supply is
above 415 volt & up to 220 KV and above 220 KV it is EHT.

Electrical power is generated in DC and while transfer this
power to customer/ user from generating station to ultimate
user the voltage get highly drop down, therefore it is
converted in to Alternating current ( AC) and then transfer
from generating station to ultimate user in distance while
the voltage get drops down we use transformers for stepping
up the voltage suitable . Therefore while transfer energy it
is High voltage ( i.e. HT ) and distributing to user this
high voltage is stepped down to suitable Low Voltage (i.e.LT
) e.g. 110v, 240v, 440v.
Differance...
HT lines LT lines
1)used for distribution
1)Use for transmitting to user.
energy from one point
to other .
2) Transformer requires to 2)no transformer require
maintainvoltage
3)Due to high voltage 3) Suitable voltage for
no user can consume energy user requirement
directly

Answer / shashi
LT means the Voltage ranges bellow 1100volts(i.e 1.1kv).
HT means the Voltage ranges from 1.1kv and above likely
6.6kv,11kv,22kv,33kv,66kv,132kv.

nsion is a French word for Voltage. A low-tension line is a low voltage line and a high-tension line is a high voltage line. In India LT supply is of 400 Volts for three-phase connection and 230 Volts for single-phase connection. High tension or HT supply is applicable for bulk power purchasers who need 11 kilo-Volts or above. Most small consumers of electricity like individual houses, shops, small offices and smaller manufacturing units get their electricity on LT connection. HT is applicable for bulk purchasers of electricity like industries (big manufacturing units), big offices, Universities, hostels and even residential colonies (if the apartment complexes purchase together in bulk). The tariff structures of most state distribution companies are different for LT and HT.
