WHAT IS THE THUMBRULE FOR FINDING OUT THE CURRENT CAPICITY
OF A COPPER WIRE?? 2.5, 4, 6MM SQUARE ETC...

Answer / uttam dutta
cURRENT CARRYING CAPACITY NOT ONLY DEPENDS ON THE CROSS
SECTION OF THE COPPER WIRE, IT ALSO GREATLY DEPENDS UPON
THE TYPE AND THICKNESS OF THE INSULATION, ONE MORE FACTOR
IS CORE OF THE CABLE, IE SINGLE CORE OR MULTICORE.
cONSIDERING ALL THIS FATORS STRICTLY IT CAN BE SAID 1 SQ.
MM COPPER CABLE CAN BEAR MAX.11 AMP SAFELY CONTENIOULY AND
2.R CAN BEAR 19 AMP . 4 SQ MM CAN BEAR 26 AMP. SOME TIME
THIS MAY VARY LITTLE DEPENDING UPON MAKE.

Answer / amro
depend the weathier out side the cabel
1- temperature
2- length of the cable
3-load factor
4- the cabel throw ( in air &duct & pipe &cabel tranch&
cabel leader inside the tranch)
for exampel:-
i= power/ volt* cos@
after that let used cabel 4 mm2
look in the catlog cabel and taking the rated current
oppset the wire
rated current *load factor*factor group*factor throw (in
air &duct & pipe &cabel tranch& cabel leader inside the
tranch )*factor temprature =current
1- if more then the load current ites ok
2- if less then the load current ites no must be chose the
big size cabel and again
calculate the equation and so an
after the calculate the voltge droop presentage must be
less the _+ 5 % from the main voltge

in case copper wire we usually take 4(approximately) amps
per square mm
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 7 Yes | 6 No |
Answer / ramesh kumar k
No.. No.. Mr. Raju... it is 2A/sq.mm atmost for safe
operation... other wise copper wire will burn out...
so the thumb rule is the current carrying capacity is
double that of area...
