Successsion Planning is usually done by the HR manager. He
analysis the performance of the juniors on continuous basis
in various functions. He anlsis the efficiency and
capabilities of the employees who can take up the senior
positions in the future.

Succession planning is a process whereby an organisation
ensures that employees are recruited and developed in such
a way so that they can be able to fill each key role within
the company. Succession planning ensures the filling up of
position within your organization.
Career Mapping is to map or to plan career in terms of your
goal/target.

succession planning is finding out what vacancies will be
existing in the organisation in near future..that too for
higher levels
whereas career mapping is finding out whats the highest
point or designation that the person can achieve or reach
in that particular field.usually showing where the
candidate can reach after few years in that field.offcourse
with hard work and accomplishing the goals.

sucession planning consists of identifying the key &
critical positions in the company . for theses positions we
identify the people who would be taking up these
responsibilities in future. These individuals are trained &
developed , continuously mentored and the gaps are bridged.
Career mapping is the process where in the employees
competency and skills are mapped to the opportunities in the
organisation by taking in account his aspirations . proper
career chart drawn for the individuals nad appropriate
training is given to prepare them to take up these
responsibilties
