when between two conductor, the surrounding
medium is ionised and chage are deposite on
the conductor, during this process glow light
with hissing sound. Or when phase voltage is
more than the critical disruptive voltage, at
thats time will corone occure...i.e called
corona..

A corona is a type of plasma "atmosphere" of the Sun or
other celestial body, extending millions of kilometers into
space, most easily seen during a total solar eclipse, but
also observable in a coronagraph. The Latin root of the
word corona means crown.

CORONA EFFECT OCCURS IN O.H CONDUCTOR, WHEN APPLIED 30 KV /
CM, STARTS MAGNETIC FIELD AROUND IT WHICH ENERGISE THE
VELENCY ELECTRONS AROUND IT, ENERGISED ELECTRON GOT
VELOCITY STRIKES THE NEUTRAL ATOMS, CHARGES ITS FREE
ELECTRONS & THE PROCESS GOES ON THEN STARTS INERACTION WITH
THE PARALLEL CONDUCTOR'S SAME PROCESS, MORE CORONA EFFECT
OCCURS WHEN APPLIED VOLTAGE INCREASED MORE THAN 30 KV / CM,
THE EFFECT WILL BE EVEN MORE, WHERE THE CONDUCTOR DURTY &
COVERED WITH DUST, ALSO OCCURS AT ROUGH SURFACE OF THE
CONDUCTOR, LOOKS IN VIOLET COLOUR THAT TO IN NIGHT,HISSING
SOUND OF CORONA CAN BE HEAR BY DISTANCE.

When a high voltage transmitted in a
transmission line, due to magnetic effect on the core of
the conductor all most all electrons passes on the surface
of the conductor. And When dielectric voltage becomes more
than 30v\cm . So the air outside the conductor surface
becames conducive and looks bluish and due to dielectric
breakdown of air a hissing noise comes from surrounding,
Called as corona !
Due to corona OZONE formation on the outside surface of the
conductor. The effect of this to the power system is called
as corona effect.

if we consider two conductors due to potential difference b/w them a violet glow is abserved around the conductor .
if the potential difference is further increased sparkover may happen . this phenomenon is named as corona

Answer / r.ezhilan
corona effect means long transmission line electro magnetic
field ,So all electron will flow surface of conductor,Some
of electron will try to flow to ground thrugh moisture and
unwanted dust that is called corona effect.

In normal atmospheric condition ion & free electron are always present because of cosmic ray , radioactivity,& ultraviolet ray. When a voltage applied to the conductor a potential gradient in the air near to the conductor ,the free electron & ion start moving. But when these voltage increase very high ,the speed of the electron is very high, and they collide with the neutral molecule & disclosed the electron from it & farther electron acquire high speed & start colliding with the other molecules.the process of ionization is cumulative which finely result in electron avalanche.the ionization of air surrounding the conductors give rise the corona effect.
