Can some share a project requirement where generic data source was used .I know when and how to use generic D/S but looking for a through example /doc .

if the data source not fulfilling the client requirement the fields which available in data source then you can go for generic data source.

SAP has developed some standard data sources (RSA5) to meet the regular requirements. If our client requirement does not meet with those standard data sources, then we go for generic data sources.
We can create generic data sources in three ways using
1) views
2) Function modules and
3) infoset.
