According to IRC 21:2000, clause 304.6.2----
Development/Lap Length is depends upon various factor--
like-
1. Grade of Concrete
2. Grade of Steel
3. Bonding Zone
Lap Length will be- nx Dia
Value of n is as below-
M20 M25 M30 M35 M40 and above
Fe500 66 56 48 42 42
Fe415 55 46 40 35 35
Fe 240 65 60 55 50 50
These values belongs only for bonding zone-1*.
For Bonding zone 2- n=1.4 x value of "n" in bonding zone 1
* Bonding Zone 2- Bonding Zone 2 is a zone where bar has been bent less than 45 degree angle and more than 300 mm fresh concrete is casted below the bars.
All other locations are bonding zone 1
