Three phase alternators are connected in star connection
why?

Answer / ashna & anju
in star conection ,phase voltage is lesser than line
voltage and induced emf in the phase winding of an
alternator is directly propotional to number of turns,a
star connected alternator will require less number of turns
than a delta connected one for the same line voltage.

in a star connection, phase voltage Vph = VL/ (3)^1/2.
1--Since the induced emf in the primary winding of an alternator is directly proportional to the number of turns, a star connected alternator will require less number of turns than a delta connected alternator for the same voltage.
2-- it also requires less insulation bcz its phase is less.
3-- it also help to reduce third harmonic ...

Answer / sudheer
induce emf is proportional to turns so for same line voltage no of turns required is less hence insulation required is less and for protectio purpose we require ground so ground provided in case of star only

Answer / binod pradhan
2-in star connection the phase voltage is low than the line voltage,so it required less no of turn. 3-low insulation required as phase voltage is low. 4-1 neutral point available in star connection. 5-unbalance current flowing in the three phase circuit, neutral is having a vital role.It will take the unbalance current through to the ground.

Answer / mahfooz alam
In Star connection the Line Voltage is 1.732 times the phase voltage. As a result of which we can have the higher voltage in star connection when compared to the delta connection. Thus, to have more output voltage Star connected Alternator are used.
