To attain a powerfactor more than .95, how much kvr should we use for 100 HP of current..

Answer / r. thirumoorthy

I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY, ITS MAY BE CORRECT.

POWER FACTOR=KW/KVAR;
IN THIS CASE WE KNOW KW VALUE INDIRECTLY 1 HP=746 WATTS
SO 100 HP=74600 WATTS
AND POWER FACTOR=0.95

THEREFORE REQUIRED KVAR=74600/0.95=78526.315

To attain a powerfactor more than .95, how much kvr should we use for 100 HP of current..

Answer / s.arul

SOLUTION:
1 HP = 735.5 watts
100 HP = 73550 watts
KVA = KW/PF
KVA = 73.55/0.95
= 77.42 KVA

To attain a powerfactor more than .95, how much kvr should we use for 100 HP of current..

Answer / jm

SOLUTION:
1 HP = 735.5 watts
100 HP = 73550 watts
KVA = KW/PF
KVA = 73.55/0.95
= 77.42 KVA

this solution is wrong, this solution indicate the KVAR rating for that specific power factor, for example the power factor of your 100HP is .7, its the KVAR of .7 pf not the .95 becuase you need a KVAR in order to increase its power factor, compute it using power factor correction, and vector diagrams.
