Answer / ran7it
u can use a hipot kit. for a 33kv cable the voltage 2 b
applied can b determined by formula (2E + 1),,whr E is the
system voltage,so for tis case it comes as 2*33 +1=67kv.
tis 67kv is mostly applied for the first time in factory
testing..after tat only 60-70% of 67kv sud b applied.
the cable has to withstand tis voltage for 1min..

Answer 5 is correct, the only thing is it is now not common
practice to Hi-pot cables as this can cause damage to it,
PD tests is the normal method of testing.

First decide on which type of cable
type of insulation, single core or 3 core
Ans 8 is the right one.Always go by the manufacturers
recommendation. The values differs for each standards and varies for different countries/utilities.Most of them prefer
soak test rather than hipot.

we have to consider the phase voltage to ground and nature
of material, but for the first test it's every time
manufacture specification as to be follow.

TO DECIDE THE VOLTAGE APPLICABLE FIRST THING TO SPECIFY
TYPE OF CABLE .
1.IF SINGLE CORE 9NEW CABLE)THEN AS PER IEC GO FOR
BILX0.8/1.732 -AC WITH VARIABLE FREQUENCY CONTROL KIT TO
ADJUST THE FREQUENCY AS PER CABLE LENGTH.
FOR CABLES LESS THAN 132kV.

Cables are naturally made of pvc,so we can apply high
voltage test to the cables and if its in no damage in high
voltage it should be declared good cable.

A lot of HV cables are XLPE not PVC. If you Megger a 33kV
cable with a DC voltage then you may damage the XLPE
semiconductor around the cable.
Industry standard in Australia(although very expensive to
buy one) is to use a VLF (very low frequency) tester to
test the cables. Same principal as mentioned, just uses an
AC waveform (~.1Hz) opposed to a DC waveform.
