LSMW is legay system migration work bench is basiclly used
for migrating data from legacy system to SAP system.
Where as CATT is computer adided testing tool used for
tesing but now days it is used for migartion manily by the
functional consultants

LSMW: Legacy system Migration workbench. Used to migrate
the data from legacy system to SAP system.
LSMW carries out the foloowing tasks: 1. Reads the
transfered data from one or more files (for example,
spreadsheets, sequential files etc.)
2. Converts the data from the source format into the target
format.
(there are 14 steps to migrate the data in LSMW).
CATT: Computer Aided Test Tool in the ABAP workbench
pakcage from SAP. It is part of SAP R/3 system. CATT allows
a developer to create test data ,group and automate
reusable test runs for repetitive business transactions.

LSMW you can run during the day, whilst users are logged on
and CATT you can only run after hours. That is my
experience on both.
