Connecting both earthing and shield of branch cables to the same earthing point in a junction box is generally acceptable as long as the combined current-carrying capacity does not exceed the maximum allowable limit. However, if there's a significant difference in current between the earthing and shield, it can create an imbalance that may lead to increased EMI or overheating. In such cases, separate connections might be necessary.
