1. it maintains the gap between the two bars.
2.it supports the bars.
3.it increases the strength of the structure and maintain the tension in RCC.
4.it helps to prevent the fear of building collapse due to the failure of compression and tension zone.

Generally , chairs bars is provided in rcc raft foundation and also in rcc slab for keeping distance(separation) b/w bottom reinforcement mesh and top reinforcement mesh. we can say that its is supportive nature and also maintain spacing. and hold the upper reinforcement and resist the compressive stress. minimum dia. of chair bar is 10/12mm.
