In SAP SD (Sales & Distribution), you can create a sales order for a reserved item by using the 'Make a Reservation' function. This will reserve the item against an open sales order or a sales order that is still in the confirmation stage. Once the reservation is made, the system will block the availability of the reserved item until the sales order is confirmed or cancelled.
