as much i know i think less dia bars will require more stirrups so the column design will be uneconomical.

moreover since column is a vertical member the less dia bars will easily buckle as compared to 12mm when th equivalent length is quite high

Column is a compressive member. So to reduce the size of
cross-sectional we are in use of varies diametre as desire.

as per my concern: we use Coarse aggregate minimum size is
