what is meaning of sympathetic tripping with respect to relays and give the values for current carr..

Answer / jaimini soni

Sympathetic trips are undesirable relay operations for
unbalanced- or high-load conditions which
occur during or immediately following out-of-section
faults. The root cause of the sympathetic
trip problem is the type and connection of loads served by
distribution feeders. There are two
classifications of sympathetic trips: those which occur due
to delayed voltage recovery
conditions, and those which occur due to the load unbalance
during an out-of-section fault.

what is meaning of sympathetic tripping with respect to relays and give the values for current carr..

Answer / Arjun Kumar

Sympathetic tripping in electrical systems refers to the automatic disconnection of non-faulty circuits when a fault occurs in another circuit within the same power system, due to the overcurrent caused by the fault. This is often done to prevent overloading or damage to the entire system. However, providing specific current carrying capacities for copper and aluminum cables of varying sizes requires a comprehensive table which may vary based on industry standards such as IEEE, NEMA, or BS standards. Here's an example of such a table for copper conductors:

| Conductor Size (sq mm) | Current Carrying Capacity (Ampere at 75°C, Single Phase, Dry Location) |
|-----------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------|
| 16 | 16 |
| 25 | 25 |
| 35 | 35 |
| 45 | 45 |
| 50 | 50 |
| 63 | 63 |
| 70 | 70 |
| 95 | 95 |
| 110 | 110 |
| 125 | 125 |
| 140 | 140 |
| 160 | 160 |
| 185 | 185 |
| 200 | 200 |
| 220 | 220 |
| 250 | 250 |
| 300 | 300 |
| 355 | 355 |
| 400 | 400 |
| 450 | 450 |
| 500 | 500
