cable is getting hot due to the case that lugs are not tighten properly. so it is good to check the tightening of lugs and clamping it firmly.

lugs can heat the cable to only some mm near vicinity of
screwing so its not the case I think.
may be that insulation of cable becomming low or temrature
exposure of cable is high
