Is there any option to replace two Genset of capacity 125KVA with one higher capacity for same offi..

Answer / kpd

There are not enough details given here to give an
approriate answer.
Office back-up generators are renowned for being crammed in
to the last bit of space the facility has left. Airflows
have to be considered for cooling and also attenuation for
a larger generator is larger again causing prospective
space issues.
Economic constraints may also exist, re cabling a single
feed to the office main board in larger cable to accomodate
the single larger generator may cause issues. Also the
operating logic of any changover contactors or equipment
will massively effect the generator choice.

Answer / loboreliance2003

Like Mr.KPD has said that not enough details are given. If
the office already has the setup of 2 gensets of 125kva
with all installed switchgear, panels, changeover switches,
cabling etc. then it is very very difficult and costly to
replace with one single DG set of higher capacity.

If these smaller gensets can be shifted to another location
then okay it can be done. If space is a constrain then well
we can go ahead and do the change. But remember earlier you
had option of running only 1 DG set and saving fuel and
wear and tear.

Once you upgrade to higher capacity then you will have to
run the same even if actual power consumption is much
lower than capacity of DG set.

There are many permutations and combinations involved and I
can help if you can give me all details of the requirement.

Answer / r.g.walia

yes, there is a clear option. First of all we required a
switch gear of 400A {ACB} And connect the both D G Sets{125}
out put with this switch. After this we connect the new D G
with switch gear.

Answer / william lobo

Looking at your new feedback; it is possible to install a
new DG set of higher capacity. Since the DG sets are on
rental then its more easy. Just ask the DG set supplier (
the one whose performance is satisfactory) to come over and
surely they will be able to give you free advice on how
best the conversion should be done.
The the electrician or engineer who did the job of
providing necessary switchgear and cabling etc for the
additional loads could be contacted and surely he too would
know what best could be done.
But this may entail higher capacity switchgear, cables etc
to be installed in lieu of the existing set up.
Or like the suggestion to provide one 400A TPN and from
here the same original cables could be used to the existing
lower capacity switchgears.
Also one higher capacity new cable is to be installed from
the new DG set to the 400ATPN.

Dear All,

Thanks a lot for your responses.

Let me clear the scenario first.

We have been operating our business in ABC complex first
floor for the past 8 years and due to our expansion we
occupied Sixth floor A wing (two wings are there Viz. A & B
respectively) after occupying A wings again we ramped up our
business further and occupied B wing also after 4 months. in
this case A & B wing has separate DG before our possession
and there were different companies. We are now operating our
business in entire six floor for which we are currently we
are continuing with the existing DG from two different
vendors with different rental amount now i had a thought of
having a single DG instead of two.

hope my answer is clear for your suggestion, let me know for
further details.

Thanks & Regards,
Raghavan.
