In a more broader technical sense, Instrumentation deals
with sensing a process, suitably monitoring the process and
controlling it.
But Automation also partly deals with Aritficial
Intelligence, wherein the transductionand process
controlling is done interactively by in-built features of
the system, unlike mere Instrumentation, where an external
circuitry or a mechanism needs to be deployed.

Instrumentation is nothing but study, to measure and
control the process variables like flow, level, pressure and
temperature.
control the process variable through any software program
(plc, dcs etc)without manual operation is called as a

Instrumentation means Take example of Washing at home
Instrumentation is Getting a manual Washing m/c, You have
to load cloth and wait for water to fill then after alarm
you shift to driwer etc etc, Now your washing is
intrumental not Toally by human, But if go for fully
automatic m/c Then you automated your washing operation I
think its very clear and simple way to understand
