HOW TO FIND THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OF TRANSFORMER(IN OFF CONDITION) USING MULTIMETER? IS IT POS..

Answer / r.nandha kumar

yes,it is possible by measuring the winding resistance of
primary & secondary.High voltage side will have high
resistance value than th low voltage side

HOW TO FIND THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OF TRANSFORMER(IN OFF CONDITION) USING MULTIMETER? IS IT POS..

Answer / rahul bawangade

as per working principle transformer , there is no primary &
secondary of transformer . transformer can be work in either
ways.

but if we have to check HV & LV we can do with multimeter .
as per transformer ratio

V1/V2=N1/N2=I2/I1. ................eqn 1
&
R =rho L/A . ...............eqn 2
\
as LV side requirement of current more & no of turns are
less , & cross sectional area of conductor is lare as per
eqn no.1& 2,resistance offered by conductor is less as
compare to HV .

HOW TO FIND THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OF TRANSFORMER(IN OFF CONDITION) USING MULTIMETER? IS IT POS..

Answer / rsbangra

As looking the tranformer one side primary and other side
secondary as per name plate, we can mesure resistenance by
just r=v/i v=rating voltage and i= rating current ,voltage
take root 3 of line voltage, so we recive resistanse value
ht or lt side, as other view insulatior are used ht side so
high and lt side lower leanth and small size.

I have a drawing of a wound rotor induction motor for a crane. This crane motor has 5 forward speeds & 5 reverse speed implemented of course with different amount of resistance for each speed setting selected. What has got me scratching around is the fact that 8 of the 10 speed selections switch in uneven (unbalanced) amounts of resistances on each of the 3 connections to the motor's rotor. Can this be possible? I would have assumed this would produce unbalanced rotor currents and therefore vibration in the motor. I would greatly appreciate anyone's comments on this. Many thanks, Confused.
