I/p convertors converts a current input signal for eg. 4-20
ma to pneumatic siganl which controls the opening and
closing of a control valve and e/p have simmiliar
operations as those of i/p but it can be either a voltage
input based or current input based.

An I/P convertor is a device that converts an electronic
input signal (typically 4-20 MA @ 24 VDC) to a pneumatic
output signal(usually 3-15 or 6-30 PSI) depending on the
control pressure required. The output must be calibrated to
provide the desired percentage of span as the input span.
The output of this convertor will do NOTHING until it is
connected to another device. The other device can be an
actuator, positioner or other device requiring a pneumatic
control signal.
If an actuator is used, the actuator can be connected to a
valve stem, a damper or a lever. The actuator can then be
used to set the position of the connected device by moving
a shaft up and down corresponding to the pressure applied
by the output of the I/P convertor. An E/P can be construed
to mean a device that converts a voltage or electronic
input signal to a pnematic output signal. A P/I convertor
does the reverse and converts a pneumatic input signal to
an electrical or electronic output signal.
An EPP as it really should be designated, is an electro-
pneumatic positioner (which can also be a smart positioner)
that can provide a position feedback to itself through the
use of a lever connected between the positioner and the
controlled device that will move proportionately up or down
with the shaft movement of the control valve, lever or
damper to which it is connected. When the position feedback
signal has reached the corresponding percentage of span of
travel, the output signal will be adjusted accordingly and
stabilized to maintains and hold the desired position of
the device.

Basically both are same. Here letter I stands for Current &
E stands for Electric signal which is nothing but current
signal to operate control valve. It's all depends on
legends we are going to use in a particuler project.

i/p is a converter that converts 4-20 ma input signal to an
pneumatic signal(3-15 psig or 6-30 psig).i/p converter took
the input in the form of current (ma)and produce an output
in the form of pneumatic signal (air)which is used to
maitain the position of control valve.
but e/p positioner is an device which also reside i/p
converter inside it along with the positioner , means e/p
positioner is the combination of i/p converter and
positioner which receive the electric signal (as current or
voltage)and convert it in pneumatic form which is
responsible for the operation of control valve.

I/p converter is current to pressure that converts an 4-20ma input signal to give output as pressure(3-15)psi.Depending on output of a positioner control valve works.

I/P is Current to Pressure converter . Its convert 4 - 20
mA to 3 -15 Psi, This 3-15 psi is not sufficient to operate
valve actuator, so its required additional pneumatic
positioner to operate valve
E/P is current to pressure converter with positioner , its
conert 4-20mA to Pressure (ex: 0 to 3 bar, 1 to 5 bar....),
output pressure of E/P can be adjustable , it not required
additional positioner

I/P transducer or positioner functions for "Current(I) to
Pneumatic(P)" signal converter. It converts "4-20mA of
Current signal" to "3-15psig pneumatic signal".
Whereas, E/P positioner functions for "Voltage
(electromotive force = E) to Pneumatic (P)" signal
converter. It converts "1-5V of voltage signal" to "3-
15psig" of pneumatic signal.

As we know all that IP converter works as current to pneumatic converter i.e 4-20 mA to 3-15 psi output, an EP converts the electrical signal to pneumatic for example SOV, solenoids valves are use for the operation of on off valve and use for fast response in action for valves, and the generally in sov electrical signal are use i.e 110 vdc this electrical signal is open the path of sov by actuating
and pneumatic goes to actuator part and valves operates.

Basically both are same & there is no difference at all
between them. Both are used for controlling C valve. 4-20mA
input to the I/P (E/P) converter converts the current
signal to 3-15 psi which either goes directly to CV
actuator or thro positioner with or without booster(1:1 or
1:2).
