How to identify Motor leads in their order coming out from winding without tag (U1, V1, W1 & U..

Answer / kofibahari

We assume this is a 6 leads out untagged. First we will get
the the continuity of each leads by using a multimeter.
Assuming we have done the continuity test, by then we can
get three pairs with continuity. Having this three pairs we
cannot really tell that our phase is right, so for us to run
the motor in the exact phase, we will get the right phase.
First we marked the first pair as U1 & U2 as our reference,
leaving the two pairs untagged. We then get one pair of the
untagged and connect one end to U2. We will supply U1 & U2
with a voltage lower than the rated voltage of the motor,
ex. if the rated voltage of the motor is 440V then we will
supply it with 220V or lower. We now measure the voltage
from U1 and the other end of the untagged pair not connected
to U2. If the voltage is more than the supply voltage then
the phase is right if not reverse the connection then put
marking V1 & V2. Do this procedure for the remaining
untagged pair. Assuming we already done our phasing we test
run the motor with a lower voltage again to avoid burning
the motor and measure if the currents in each phase are the
same.

How to identify Motor leads in their order coming out from winding without tag (U1, V1, W1 & U..

Answer / hiresh vs

The above all 4 ans give you continuity of three leads. But
you never know which is U1 & U2 for delta connection it is
important. Never try Pswin answer if the leads are opposite
motor may burn.

How to identify Motor leads in their order coming out from winding without tag (U1, V1, W1 & U..

Answer / j.r.mehta

SIMPLY BY CONNECTING ONE LEAD WITH MULTIMETER AND CHECK
ANOTHER END (KEEP MM IN CONTINUITY MODE),WHERE U WILL FIND
CONT. IT IS ONE PHASE (WE'VE TO ASSUME U ,V , OR W)LIKE
WISE OTHERS

How to identify Motor leads in their order coming out from winding without tag (U1, V1, W1 & U..

Answer / jitesh patel

BY USING TEST LAMP ,WE CAN EASYLY IDENTIFY THE MOTOR LEAED.
1. APPLY PHASE TO THE ANY ONE LEAD OF THE MOTOR & CHECK THE
TEST LAMP TO OTHER LEAD, WHICH LEAD - BULB IF GLOW THAT IS
THE OTHER END OF THAT LEAD. IT MEANS SUPPOSE I ASSUME ONE
LEAD IS U1 & THAT IS CONNECT TO THE PHASE & CHECK THE TEST
LEMP TO THE ANOTHER LEAD WHEN BULB WILL GLOW THATS LEAD IS
U2.

How to identify Motor leads in their order coming out from winding without tag (U1, V1, W1 & U..

Answer / s.gnanaprakasam

Take the megger, connect its one lead to any one of the
outcoming winding point.Rotate the megger operating handle
and simultaniously touch the other lead of the megger to
other{balance 5 winding points will be there} winding point
one by one.To which point, the megger is showing short
[reading 0] that is two ends of one winding.just assume,it
is U1,U2.Repeat the procedure for the remaining 4winding
points and mark it respectively V1,V2 &W1,W2.Also by using
multimeter in contunity mode with above said procedure ,we
can mark wdg. leads.

How to identify Motor leads in their order coming out from winding without tag (U1, V1, W1 & U..

Answer / pswin

Find three windings in the motor by using multimeter. Then
connect three windings to be star connection. After that try
to run the motor by supply.See the motor rotation from
shaft side.If the motor rotation is counterclockwise, change
any one of phase to another(R&B,R&Y or Y&B).Then u will see
motor will run in clockwise direction. If we get clockwise
rotation, u can mark R to U1, Y to V1 and B to W1. The rest
U2,V2 and W2 will be at the star point. Now U can mark as
U2,V2 and W2 at the other ends of each U1,V1 and W1.If u
know about phase sequence very well, u will find that motor
terminals are not important.Important thing is which
rotation we need and how we will feed to get right rotation
we want.
