Reactive power is the power consumed by highly inductive
loads like induction motors (windings are highly inductive)
and supplied by capacitors
(power factor correction). in some cases this power can be
supplied into a power system by means of condensor motors
which can be made to run at leading or lagging power factor
depending on thier excitation.
Active power is mainly consumed by pure resistive loads
like a bulb or an electric kettle.
In a pure inductive load, the power factor is lagging
because the current wave lags behind the voltage wave by 90
degree.
In a pure capacitive load, the power factor is leading
because the current wave leads the voltage wave by 90
degrees.
A pure resistive loads has no phase shift. The current and
the voltage waves reaches maximum and minimum values at the
same time.

ans:Reactive power is defined as the swinging
power, swinging between the source and the load. it is
actually used for energising the reactive elements.
whereas, active power is defined as the consumable power or
it is the lost power.
it can also be defined as the power dissipated in the
ressitive circuits.
