forms

we can use various type of wave signal to the ac system
but sine wave is used because
1.the rms value of sine wave is more than the other wave
like square,triangular etc
2.it genarate smooth flux density in case of machine
3.hunting and harmonics are in machine less compare to other wave.

By virtue of construction & operation of generator, it
possible to generate Sine wave only.
When a non varying flux (fild flux) rotates & cuts the
stator winding(a winding of conductor ) , a sinusoidal
voltage wave induced in stator in turn current.
The appliences(eg Motor etc) has been designed to utilise
the same in the most easiest way with minimum losses.
of course we can generate voltage wave(in turn current)
which is not sine wave simply by variying the field flux.
But what will be the result of that?? Hermonics. which
will contribute increased losses, lesser life span of
equipments because of more heating, if we go in details of
the same , it will be seen that effect of non-sinusoidal
waves is not +ve. it is -ve .
Hence we only use sinusoidal wave(voltage & hence current)
I have just given a try to explain ,saying just whatever
came in my min in first go. if somebody can add some more
value to it please. we all will learn. please

any mathematical operation on a sine wave provides a sine
wave. add, sub , differentiate, integrate. whereas square
wave or triangular wave gets transformed to different wave form

we know that emf is produced in a coil whenever it
undergoes a change in flux associated with it.In electrical
engg most of the times the field have a cyclic movement,
which result a sinusoidal emf in the armature. hence at the
production stage, we have sine wave, which is used further.
also sine wave have smooth variation.

Basically because every periodic function can be represented as a
function of sine and cosine waves (Fourier expansion).
f(x)= a+ sin nx + cos nx (n varies from 1 to infinity)
Therefore a sine (or cosine) wave of AC is the most flexible form
of usage since it can be converted into any other form as required.
Remember, a cosine wave is also a sine wave that is phase shifted
by 90 degrees..

Basically power system has 2 main components.
1-inductor(differentiate) and capacitor(integrate)
If we differentiate or integrate the sinusoidal
Quantity we get sinusoidal. This is one of the basic reason to use sin quantity.

the sine wave is exists from nature, when we use signals
like ramp,step,impulse, dirac comb,rect,etc..,originating
from sudden change so system components like
diodes ,resistors will destroy due high flow of current.due
to this sinewave is prefferble

any waveform showing change in magnitude and direction is
ac wether it is square triangular or whtever, but
calculation using sinusoidal(sine and cosine as well)
becomes easy. for exmpl sum of two sine waves is a sine
wave.

any mathematical operation on sine wave produces sine wave
only.for eg;addition, sub, multi, div.whereas otherwaves changes their wave forms.
we generate electricity and transfer it from one place to another place.
at generation time we want to produce it at low voltage
and transmission should be done at high voltage and it is economical in household to use the current at low voltage.
all these requirements are satisified by sinusoidal wave.so we prefer sine wave over other waves
