what is the function of anti-pumping in circuit breaker?

Answer / kayode j.
The anti-pumping relay is a device in circuit-breaker whose
function is to prevent multiple breaker closures. For
instance, if the operator gives the closing command to the
breaker by pressing the close button and the breaker
closes. However, a fault in the system causes the breaker
to trip. Since the close command is still in the pressed
condition, there is a chance of the breaker closing again
and being tripped by the relay multiple times. This can
damage the closing mechanism of the breaker. The anti-
pumping relay prevents this by ensuring that the breaker
closes only once for one close command from the control
panel.

suppose you close c.b and fault happen during closing (
temporary earhtg , breakdown ...) and you still press the
push botton the breaker will reclose in fault agian so
regard for this anti pumping used to prevent reclose

If the closing coil circuit (52/CC) is continuously
energized, the anti-pump relay ensures that the circuit
breaker does not “pump” open and closed in the event that a
trip signal is also present. The anti-pump relay
performs this function by allowing the closing coil to
activate only if:
• the circuit is energized
• the drive springs are fully charged, and
• the motor relay is de-energized
The anti-pump relay activates when the close circuit and
motor relay are energized.
If the close circuit is energized continuously, the
anti-pump relay will be latched
in the energized position after the motor relay is
de-energized by a pair of its own
normally open contacts. When the anti-pump relay is
energized, a pair of its
normally closed contacts, in series with the closing coil,
ensure that the closing
coil cannot be energized. The closing coil activates only
when the closing circuit is
de-energized (de-energizing the anti-pump relay), then
closed again

The function of closing coil is to close breaker,it is
designed to take supply for few seconds,if we give
continuous supply to it burns,so to prevent burning of
closing coil, after closing of breaker closing coil must be
bypass, and this is done by made arrangement for bypassing
closing coil after breaker closure,
so if above condition is achieved and then breaker is close
,we can not operate closing coil and it is prevented from
burning ,this system is called anti pumping

The circuit breaker can be operated from panel, if they are
simulated it can be operated from computer, and in the
local mode also, this anti pumping provides protection
against multiple closing of breaker. Once the breaker is
closed in any of these modes it wont accept it another
time,as it can be operated in many ways.
