The star point on the secondary site of the transformer
provides an earth return point for earth faults. The
previous answer is also correct.
Also 3rd Harmonics are circulated within the primary delta
winding which prevents the LV harmonic distortions from

Answer / rabi
In distribution system, required voltage level is mainly
220V which can be obtained with star connected secondary
(415/√3) as there is a provision of neutral. Also the
insulation coast for the secondary will be less the voltage
level is less in secondary.
