Answer / priya
shear wall is ,concrete wall made to resist lateral forces
acting on tall buildings. It is provided ,when the centre of
gravity of building area & loads acted on it differs by
more than 30%. in order to bring the c.g in range of 30%
concrete wall is provided i.e lateral forces may not
increase much.

Shear wall is used in the tall strutures which is used to
resist the lateral force and maintain the center of gravity
of structure. In tall structures the lift core is used as a
shearwall. it should build inside the structure to maintain
the C.G.

Shear wall is a wall designed to resist lateral forces acting in its own plane. It is necessary to make these structures safe against lateral load produced due to wind, earthquake. The shear wall should be placed at a point by coinciding center of gravity and centroid of the building.

Shear wall is the lateral bracing wall provided to take
care of lateral forces created during Earth quakes and also
due to any other horizontal forces created in the structures
mainly tall ones

Answer / r.bharathi murugan
A shear wall is a wall which is designed to resist shear,
the lateral force which causes the bulk of damage in
earthquakes. Many building codes mandate the use of shear
walls to make homes safer and more stable, and learning
about shear walls is an important part of an architectural
education. Architects are obliged to think about shear walls
and other safety features when they design a structure, so
that they can accommodate the walls to make the structure
sound while also aesthetically pleasing.

shear wall is mainly to resist earth quake forces in tall
builldings done at cornors mainly and in 1or3 intermediate
portions as a measure of safety against collapse without any
warning as per results of structural engg lab in chennai
this may look little costly but safe
even this cannot prevent Earth QUAKE
