California Bearing test is a Test conducted both in lab as
well as insitu to find out the strenght and stability of
the soil sample. the results of the test are expressed in
Percentage and are relative results. the results are
optained for 2.5 mm penetration and 5 mm penetration.
usually the 2.5mm penetration value being high is expresed
as CBR value. The pressures to be applied during the test
are 70kg/sq cm and 105kg/sq cm

CBR: is california bearing ration test this test is
conducted in the laboratory where the soil is taken from
the site this test is mainly for conducted for pavement
thickness,As the CBR value increases pavement thicness
decreases.

- The California Bearing Ratio (CBR) is a penetration test
for evaluation of the mechanical strength of road subgrades
and base courses. It was developed by the California
Department of Transportation in the 1930’s.
- The CBR is used for measuring the load-bearing capacity
for new pathways, road and airstrips or for soils already
underpaved areas. The harder the surface, the higher the
rating.
- CBR is a measure of resistance of material to penetration
of a plunger under controlled density and moisture
conditions.

CBR:California Bearing Ratio Test is done for determining
the bearing capacity of the different types of the soils in
different compositions through the CBR test and design the
appropriate pavement for the given conditions depending upon
the drained and undrained CBR values.
