what is the difference between power and distribution transformer?..

Answer / ajay nagar

power transformer is used for the transmission purpose at
heavy load, high voltage greater than 33 KV & 100%
efficiency. it also having a big in size as compare to
distribution transformer, it used t generating station and
transmission substation .high insulation lavel.

the distribution transformer is used for the distribution
of electrical energy at low voltage as less than 33KV in
industrial purpose and 440v-220v in domestice purpose. it
work at low efficiency at 50-70%, small size, easy in
installation, having low magnetic losses & it is not always
fully loaded.

what is the difference between power and distribution transformer?..

Answer / tapan desai

The main difference bet. power transformer has max. efficiency at full load and distribution transformer has max. efficiency at half of full load.power transformer design to utilize to core max. and operate at knee point of the B-H curve where distribution transformer cannot design like power transformer as we consider all-day efficiency.because load-cycle comes into picture.

what is the difference between power and distribution transformer?..

Answer / mahadev

The differece between distribution and power transformer
can be stated on the basis of construction. The elements
used in the transformer matters, thats the core
type,windings and how much losses.
Power transformer are cheaper and contains high voltage
because of good quilities of elements are used while
distribution transformer are in opposite of power
transformers.
Many of the people talk about the usuage but nobody talk
about the construction which is the basic answer of the
given qustion.

what is the difference between power and distribution transformer?..

Answer / rajesh

Power transformers are used for transmission of electrical power typically from a generator or as inter-connecting transformers between an electrical grid and power station with capacities ranging from few hundred KVA to MVA. These are bulk power devices and in general operate at a near constant load. These transformers are designed to utilize the
core to maximum and will operate very much near to the knee
point of B-H curve.
Distribution transformers on the other hand are used in distribution stations. They will operate under different load conditions such as peak and low loads.All-day efficiency of a distribution transformer will be considered while designing them.Typically their capacity will be in the order of few hundreds of KVA.

what is the difference between power and distribution transformer?..

Answer / tanya

The difference between power and distribution transformer is based on various factors like the power transformer is used transmission network while distribution transmission is used in distribution networks for low voltage.
power transformer is larger as compared to distribution transformer.
power transformer is designed for maximum efficiency of 100 percent whereas distribution transformer id designed for 50-70 percent.

what is the difference between power and distribution transformer?..

Answer / deepikawalde

Power transformers
For transmitting networks of higher voltages for step-up and step-down application (400 kV, 200kV, 110kV, 33kV) and are generally rated above 200MVA in power transformers.
For lower voltage distribution networks as a means for connecting end users among 11 kV, 3.3kV, 440V, 230V is basically rated less than 200MVA in distribution transformers.
Transformer Size/ Insulation Level:
Power transformer is for heavy load transformation load, it has 100% efficiency and high voltage greater than 33 kV. Distribution transformer is lesser in size when compared to this transformer and the main uses of this device can be found in generating station and Transmission sub station and higher level insulation.
The distribution transformer is used for the electrical energy distribution at low voltage less than 33kV for works related to industry and 440V-220V for household purposes. A lower efficiency of 50-70% size is enough , lower magnetic losses, easier installation, without full load.
Iron Losses and Copper Losses
Transmission network uses Power transformer as they do not directly connect with the users, there is very less load fluctuation. Throughout the day for 24 hrs they are loaded and the specific weight that is the division of iron weight by copper weight is very less.
In distribution network a power transformer is used and so they are connected to the consumer which leads to higher load fluctuations. The iron losses takes place 24 hrs a day and copper losses depends on the load cycle as it is not loaded fully and the specific weight is more as average loads are about 75% of full load and these are made in such a way that efficiency occurs at its maximum of 75% of full load. All day efficiency is defined in order to calculate the efficiency with power basis.
The main use of power transformers are in step up devices for I2r loss minimizing a given power flow. For utilizing the core to maximum these transformers are designed and it will operate with more clarity near the B-H curve.
The above kind of design cannot be applied for distribution transformers. While designing it the efficiency throughout the day comes into the picture. Typical load cycle for supply depends on its supply. For taking care of the peak load the core design will be done along with all-day-efficiency.
