Neutral is not used for power supply purpose as in phase..
every equipment runs only when the circuit is closed.. to
make the circuit close neutral is used.....

neutral is a point which is always kept at ground potential
i.e 0 volts. it's used for the completion of a closed
circuit.again we know that in a sinusoidal ac voltage
waveform the voltage varies from -V to +V.hence it has to
cross through the 0 voltage level.hence neutral is
necessary.again for the occurence of any type of fault the
neutral serves as a path for the passage of the fault
current. in a balanced 3 phase system for suppose a
y-conncted network Ia+Ib+Ic=0.For an unbalanced 3 phase
fault we see that Ia+Ib+Ic=If....which is the fault current
and it flows throught the neutral..

Neutral Will allow us to complete the circuitry in case of
the system..
Also it acts as a ground 2 t negative charges..

neutral means it a zero potential .it is used to protect
the alternator.if fault exists to flow such high currnt to
the neutral
